exploring dunkeld, perthshire, scotland

a day trip to dunkeld, perthshire, scotland

This Friday, we jumped on the train to Dunkeld, a beautiful little town in Perthshire, for a lovely November afternoon pottering in and out of shops and eating the most delicious baked goods. I hope you enjoy this look at what we got up to!

making our way into dunkeld

Dunkeld was about 2 - 2.5 hours away by train from home in Edinburgh, and it's a pretty beautiful route in places thanks to its crossing of the Forth!

a delicious lunch at aran bakery

My bestie, Nadia, had recommended a trip to Aran Bakery, which I loved the look of and then was extra chuffed to learn one of my fave Great British Bakeoff bakers Flora Shedden was the owner. It was divine, a super cute spot with the best-tasting focaccia I’ve ever had (including lots of focaccia during trips to Italy!) We also had the vegan double chocolate cookie and the vegan flapjack, both delicious. While there we agreed we had to come back to Dunkeld, if only to sample more of the bakery, going home with a stonking loaf of sourdough too.

exploring more of dunkeld’s shops

If you’re planning a visit to Dunkeld, we found heaps of antique and vintage shops, wee art galleries, beautiful gift shops, and stylish delis galore!

Our especial favourites included the lovely Lòn, The Vintage Shop, and Atholl Gallery where I got one of my first Christmas presents for the year.

We also liked the look of The Scottish Deli, Rustic Rose Vintage, and I bought myself some rings at a lovely shop I can’t find online but was on the High St in Dunkeld.

All in all there was plenty to see!

a stop at the taybank hotel

We are very keen to come back to stay at The Taybank, stopping for a drink in the hotel bar at the end of our trip! It’s a really beautiful space and we were chuffed to note that dogs were allowed too.

a goodbye to dunkeld

All in all, it was a beautiful trip and just as worth visiting on a day that was raining on and off! I can’t wait to come back and definitely recommend a trip if you’re ever nearby.
